There’s been a lot of sharing of the most listened to songs, albums, and artists in our client’s music apps around the office lately. While I will withhold my music interests for now, I thought I’d share what some of the therapists at Queen City Counseling & Consulting have been reading and listening to this past year!
Podcasts
- The Huberman Lab – This neuroscience focused podcast, led by Dr. Andrew Huberman, provides lots of great tips on physical and mental health. Dr. Huberman often emphasizes the connection between physical and mental health which leads to helpful suggestions surrounding nutrition, sunlight, movement and more! This podcast would be appropriate for most older teens and up.
- One Day You’ll Thank Me – This parenting podcast is led by Dr. Tara Egan, a Charlotte local! Dr. Tara Egan gives wonderful suggestions on parenting young kids and teens in various life situations. She often invites local experts to the show to share more of their insights as well. Be on the lookout for some Queen City Counseling & Consulting therapists on her show! This podcast would be most appropriate for parents and caregivers.
- On Purpose with Jay Shetty – Similar to The Huberman Lab, Jay Shetty’s podcast is a space to listen to interesting conversations with various guests on overall wellness. This podcast would be most appropriate for older teens and up, depending on the episode.
Books
- Parenting a Teen Who Has Intense Emotions by Pat Harvey and Britt Rathbone – This book is a great resource for parents who are struggling to decide where to set boundaries, how to provide both support and structure, and navigate emotion dysregulation in their teen. It also references several helpful DBT skills!
- Set Boundaries, Find Peace by Nedra Glover Tawwab – I often hear young adult clients refer to this as “the boundary book”. If you are interested in learning how and where to set boundaries in your life, this book is for you.
- Burnout: The Secret to Unlocking the Stress Cycle by Emily Nagoski and Amelia Nagoski – This book is geared towards women to understand the differences in how their bodies undergo and maintain stress. It provides many tangible tips and resources to consider when battling burnout.
