Group Therapy

Group Therapy

There is strong supportive evidence from research that shows group therapy can have a significant impact on one’s recovery. Group therapy not only allows clients to interact with our clinicians but also gain other perspectives and support from peers. Our clinicians are currently offering the following groups:

Transforming Through Art

An empowering and transformative experience for teens, where creativity meets healing. This camp is designed to help young individuals explore their emotions, build self-esteem, process anxiety and guilt, and engage in a supportive group environment—all through the therapeutic power of art.

Event Breakdown:

Friday Evening – Friday March 28th: Introduction to Art Therapy & Group Building
Kick off the weekend by settling into a safe, supportive space with icebreakers, group norms, and a creative introduction. Participants will engage in a creative exercise to explore self-worth and begin reflecting on their feelings of guilt, anxiety, and self-doubt.

Saturday March 29th – Exploring Guilt, Self-Esteem, and Anxiety Through Art
The day focuses on expressing and understanding deep-seated emotions such as guilt, self-esteem, and anxiety through creative outlets. Teens will create art that represents feelings of guilt through collages and sculpt anxiety in tangible forms. Together, they will reflect, discuss, and process emotions in a group mural centered around “Letting Go.”

Sunday March 30th half day- Processing & Affirmation
The final day is about empowering teens with affirmations and showcasing the art they’ve created throughout the weekend. Through personalized affirmation cards/and or boxes with a final art show, participants will be encouraged to continue using creative expression as a tool for self-compassion and emotional healing.

Adolescent CBT-Based Process Group

Our weekly process groups are open groups in which clients can bring any topic to the table that has impacted their lives both past and/or presently. Guided by a licensed clinician, participants have the opportunity to receive multiple perspectives, support, encouragement and feedback from both peers and therapist in a safe, comfortable, and confidential environment. These interactions will allow clients the opportunity to deepen their level of self-awareness and learn how to relate to others in similar situations.

Our clinicians will incorporate cognitive behavioral therapy skills as they relate to group topics or situations. The goal is to help participants gain awareness of how beliefs, perceptions, and opinions impact how you feel and behave in certain situations. Groups offer a low-pressure opportunity to practice skills that can benefit mental health outside of the group setting, and each group will end with a guided coping skill such as relaxation, grounding, distress tolerance, and mindfulness.

Our adolescent process group are open to ages 13 to 18 (if in high school). Group meets weekly for an hour and a half on either Tuesdays or Thursdays, from 6pm to 7:30pm. In order to enroll in group, you must have a current individual therapist or psychiatrist that you meet with regularly. The group is rolling admission, meaning participants can join at any time.

Prior to enrolling in group we will schedule a time to meet for a brief assessment to review history, current situation, and establish goals for group. We are private pay and out of network with all insurance companies, but we can provide superbills for you to submit for out of network benefits. The cost is $180 for the one-hour assessment and $75 per group.  We do require an initial 4-week non-refundable commitment to group in order to help establish group cohesion.

Monthly Parent Support Group

Our monthly parent support group meets on the third Friday of every month during lunch time for an hour and a half. The topic rotates each month, and addresses concerns that impact parents such as self-care, guilt and self-blame as a parent, how to support your child, and learning how to de-escalate crisis and help your child use coping skills.

On occasion we will incorporate speakers specialized in different areas of mental health including navigating the 504/IEP plans, medications, etc. In addition to each group topic, time is also allotted to address other attendees’ concerns, share stories, gain advice and insights from other parents, and ask clinicians questions. This is your time as a parent to feel supported in a safe and understanding environment.

The group is open to all parents and caretakers in the Charlotte area, and the group rotates between only in person and only virtual sessions.
