Individual Therapy in Charlotte, NC
Our Clinicians take a trauma-informed and strengths-based approach in their individual work and may use a variety of therapeutic models. Clinicians at Queen City Counseling & Consulting are passionate about exploring client strengths and assisting clients in leveraging these strengths to make progress towards therapeutic goals. Individual therapy is a collaborative process where clients and clinicians work together to set goals for treatment. Our clinicians are able to incorporate Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Skills (DBT) and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) skills into session.
Specialized Therapy Models
Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is a therapeutic treatment designed for processing trauma and adverse life experiences. Therapists trained in EMDR use bilateral stimulation to help evoke the brain’s problem-solving process and aid in more adaptive storage of traumatic memories and events. Bilateral stimulation most often uses back-and-forth eye movements but can also include gentle tapping or bilateral sounds. EMDR has been shown to reduce emotional distress tied to trauma.
Trauma Resiliency Model (TRM)
Brainspotting
Brainspotting is a brief, mind-body therapy that helps individuals process and release stored trauma and emotions by focusing on specific spots in their visual field, known as “brainspots”. These spots are associated with emotional and physical sensations linked to past experiences. By holding their gaze at these brainspots, clients can unlock and process deeply held trauma and emotions, potentially leading to a more grounded and integrated sense of self.
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)
Exposure and Response Prevention is a specialized form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) designed to treat Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). It involves gradually exposing individuals to situations that trigger obsessions while preventing them from engaging in compulsions. The goal is to help individuals learn to tolerate anxiety and distress without resorting to compulsions, ultimately reducing the frequency and intensity of these behaviors.
